Did you know that some of the most common foods we eat during our cookouts are the most dangerous foods for our pets? Meat with bones in it, such as chicken and ribs, are extremely dangerous for our pets to get a hold of…bones can puncture the stomach and other organs if swallowed because they cannot be digested. Corn-on-the-cob can also be dangerous because dogs have been known to swallow the cob whole! What do you do to keep your dog busy with something else during the barbeque?
After spending over 2 1/2 years — that’s 913 days in a shelter — waiting for a forever family, only to be passed over time and time again because she breathes loudly, April Love, a truly lovable kitty, is leaving the Montclair Township Animal Shelter to go to a home!
April Love’s heart-wrenching story went viral on social media with over 3500 shares on Facebook since December. Calls and emails flooded into the shelter from around the country — with folks from Minnesota, Florida and even California inquiring about her.
“The outpouring of love for sweet April Love is inspiring” said shelter cat team volunteer leader Karen Shinevar. “Given that she has spent nearly her whole life in a shelter environment, her next chapter must be sensitive to her socialization needs as well as her breathing condition.”
The numerous inquiries for April Love were heartfelt and generous. Many folks came to visit April Love and some even fell in love with other cats while they were at the shelter.
“While some offers would have required lengthy transport that could be stressful and put her physical and emotional well-being at risk, the Montclair community has been so kind, responsive and understanding,” said Karen.
To make matters more difficult for her adoption even as her story gained attention, April Love developed a kitty cold which kept her from the “public meet & greet” events.
Then, last week, after hearing of April Love’s story, Carteret Animal League, a nonprofit animal rescue organization based in West Carteret NJ, stepped forward to rescue precious April Love — she will live in a home to get adjusted to family life. She will also have a full medical work up to better understand her condition.
“Once she is ready for her forever home, she will be placed in NJ and it will require a home visit. Only the best for this girl!” Said Alex Klinger of Carteret Animal League.
Last Friday, April Love officially said goodbye to the shelter that gave her love, comfort and care for the past 2 1/2 years. Volunteers and staff shared a tearful farewell to this beautiful girl as she embarked on the next chapter of her life. – See more at: http://montclairanimalshelter.blogspot.com/#sthash.9zp4axml.dpuf
